HEAVY METALS POLLUTION IN AIR AND SOIL

Abstract: Since ancient times, heavy metals have begun to spread into the atmosphere and the earth as natural consequences of human activities. Water and air pollutants that form during industrial activities tend to mix with the soil by chemical means. Industrialization has brought about heavy metal pollution and has reached great dimensions over time. There are more 35 metal exposed in the outdoors, of which 23 are heavy metals. The definition of heavy metal is used for metals with a density of 5g /cm3. Lead (Pb), cadmium (Cd), chromium (Cr), iron (Fe), cobalt (Co), copper (Cu), nickel (Ni), mercury (Hg) and zinc are the heavy metals frequently encountered. Heavy metals are spread from the very different sources and from different process stages to the atmosphere. The atmospheric heavy metals released from different sources can harm the ecological balance by w dry and wet accumulation and surface waters followed by groundwater. This study focuses on methods for the sources, accumulation and remediation methods of heavy metals in the air and soil.
